Magnolia Market - Waco, TX

Last week we had the opportunity to check an item off our bucket-list! If you've ever watched Fixer Upper, then you can imagine where this is going. Since we were already in Austin, TX for the weekend (see our weekend guide for Austin) we decided to drive up to Waco. And you guessed it, we went to Magnolia Market!

Getting to Magnolia Market

Driving to Magnolia Market was so exciting and we couldn't get there fast enough. And luckily the hour and a half drive from Austin was very easy and totally worth it. When we got off the interstate in Waco and headed into downtown toward the Silo District, we instantly saw Magnolia off in the distance.

As we drove past Silos Baking Co. and Magnolia Market on the way to the free parking lot behind the store, the feeling of being there was surreal. We are huge fans of Fixer Upper and have dreamed of the day we could visit Waco in person.

The Silos

As we got out of the car and started to walk up to the market, the excitement didn't stop. We couldn't wait to explore every inch of the Silos. Seeing the Silos on TV doesn't even begin to give you and idea of just how spectacular it really is. What Chip and Joanna Gaines have built in Waco is absolutely incredible. Not only were they able to keep the structural integrity of the silos, the market and Silos Baking Co. but they truly transformed these spaces into something incredible.

The silos is a bit like a complex. You'll find grassy areas where you can lounge, food trucks, a vegetable & flower garden and so much more. The Silos has everything you need to stay for much of the day!

The Market

We arrived at the market just after 9:00 am on a Monday and there was already a line to get inside. While we patiently waited to get inside, we enjoyed the architectural beauty of the silos and the market. No detail has been missed when restoring these old structures. The craftsmanship that Chip and Joanna have put into these places is something people will be able to appreciate for years to come.

It was finally our turn to go inside and we were ready! We love everything inspired by Joanna Gaines. While we might not live in a house that was on Fixer Upper, our modern farmhouse has Joanna Gaines written all over it. When we walked inside it was almost overwhelming. There were just so many different things to see and so many unique items for sale, but that isn't a bad thing. We were ready to get out our wallets and do some damage.

The market is organized into sections such as kitchen, bath, wall decor, textiles, etc. This made the shopping experience much easier than I have seen at other stores that are organized by staged rooms. We almost forgot to mention the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Several times we were asked where we were from and if they could put anything on hold for us while we continued to browse.

If you are like us, you will want to buy everything while you are there. Unless you drove all the way there, you have no easy way of getting things home. Well you're in luck! Because if you spend $100 or more, they have a FedEx Shipping Station in the market and will ship it to your house. And the shipping is free! You'll only pay the fee of the box and packaging. We took full advantage of this, since we purchased pillows and quite a few pieces of decor.

If you are thinking of going to the Market, we highly recommend it. You can learn all about it and plan your trip here.

Silos Baking Co.

We can remember watching the episode of Fixer Upper where Chip & Joanna were renovating what would soon become Silos Baking Co. And they did an incredible job transforming this old building into something sweet. The real line at the Silos isn't at the Market but at the bakery.

As we waited in line, we were brought a menu with a pencil to fill out what we wanted. We opted for a cranberry orange biscuit, a classic cupcake (chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream icing) and a lemon lavender cupcake (lemon & lavender vanilla cake with lemon buttercream icing). Fast-forward 10 minutes, we made it inside the bakery. The smell was heavenly and we really just wanted to try one of everything.

We decided to stick to our original order, so we handed the cashier our order, she rang us up and we moved to the other end of the counter to wait for our order. It only took about 5 minutes. And there packaged neatly in a box was our order. We went outside to a nice quaint seating area and indulged in the biscuit, which was incredible!

If you visit the silos, you have to get a sweet treat from Silos Baking Co. even if the line is long. Trust us, you won't regret it!

Miles To Magnolia

Just in case you are wondering from where we live in Boise, Idaho it is 1,330 miles to Magnolia. And let us tell you we would drive everyone of those miles just to go back again.

Magnolia Table

The latest buzz in Waco is Magnolia Table, Chip and Joanna's latest venture. The restaurant isn't located at the Silos but is only about 10 minutes away. We decided to go check it out. Unfortunately since Magnolia Table had just opened a couple days before they were already on an extremely long wait. Because of the wait and us needing to get back to Austin to fly home, we didn't get the chance to eat there. But next time!

Common Grounds

As you might might remember from Fixer Upper, the owners of Common Grounds were looking for a home near their coffee shop. I mean we are fans of the show, but anything coffee and we are there.

After we left the Silos we decided to venture over to Common Grounds for a coffee before we headed back to Austin. This cute coffee shop is located right next to the Baylor University campus. Since we were there during spring break, the coffee shop wasn't very busy and was pretty quiet.

We both opted for a iced latte and let us tell you, it was probably ones of the smoothest lattes we've had. If you are in the neighborhood you should definitely stop by.
